Week 13: MLMs

"Whatever answer you may seek, it is precisely where you are not looking."

MLMs! Short for Multi-Level Marketing, this method of selling has been heavily disputed. Many have called it the key to "being your own boss" or the "freedom to live your life," while others call them pyramid schemes and a way of scamming. In my opinion, I agree with the latter viewpoint, and for this week's Tuesday Fix, I have provided two videos and an article that go into how many MLMs operate, and the dangers that those involved in them face.

1. Multilevel Marketing: While In this video, John Oliver gives a pitch to sell why MLM's can dangerous, just how someone may approach you to sell their MLM. This video explores the cult-like personalities of some MLM leaders, and how that is used to attract others to believe they can enjoy the success of high income achievers at the top of the pyramid.

2. Building Your Pyramid: The concept of being your own boss, and before the pandemic, the ability to work from home or wherever you liked, was one of the top recruiting methods of those who signed up for MLM's. This tactic has been focused on MLM's that focus on recruiting, especially when there is a significant cost to just sign up for the program.

3. Preying on the Dream: This article is very straight to the point on how MLM's, especially ones that are pyramid schemes, operate and who they are looking to prey on. It covers the various warning signs, and provides additionally resources that look into the current MLM companies that exist.
