Week 41: Housing

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

"When in doubt, go to the source."

The current housing market has seen a huge increase in average housing prices. This has also brought increased value for homeowners, increase in rent prices, increase in housing tax revenue, and an increase for new policies and regulations. In this week's Tuesday Fix, we will discuss the different types of housing markets and the money that flows through them, while also looking at some of the history behind certain housing and how the current housing market came to be.

1. Why Do We Have Housing Projects?: "What's the history behind public housing? Why do governments all over the world subsidize housing for the public. Today, Dannielle look at the evolution of housing projects and how the government got into the landlord game."

2. Mobile Homes: "Mobile homes may seem like an affordable housing option, but large investment companies are making them less and less so." John Oliver explores the sales techniques around mobile homes, their values over time, and how some make money renting the land underneath.

3. Wall Street Firms Are Now Buying Up Family Homes: Since the market crash of 2008, investment firms have searched for returns in real estate without the risks that caused the last downfall, and more recently, these firms have decided that buying to rent on a large scale is the best way to do that.

Call to Action! As we all need a place to lay our heads at night, and where and what we stay in also will affect our futures, be sure to study the unique housing market in your area, and see if any new rules or policies have passed or may pass, as that can also affect your cost of living and housing.
